[Wexford, PA] — Troop 150 has officially made history after being named the recipient of the American Legion Outstanding Scouts BSA Unit Award for the second consecutive year, becoming the first troop to ever earn the recognition back-to-back.
The award recognizes excellence in leadership, service, training, outdoor programming, advancement, and community impact among American Legion-sponsored Scout troops across Pennsylvania.
Troop 150 earned the historic recognition following an exceptional year of growth, service, and Scout-led achievement. Among the troop’s accomplishments this past year:
- 1,378 logged community service hours supporting veterans and local community initiatives
- 100% trained adult leadership, including all Key 3 leaders being Wood Badge trained
- 37 Scouts attending summer camp
- 37 advanced youth leadership trainings completed, including National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) and bi-annual Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
- Four Scouts attending NYLT, including one serving on staff
- 41 camping nights logged throughout the year
- Participation in high-adventure adventures and specialized outdoor preparation
- 57 rank advancements, including five Eagle Scouts
- Participation in Scout Sunday and youth religious emblem programs
- Continued membership growth and strong Scout retention
Rather than repeating past successes, troop leadership says the Scouts focused on finding new ways to grow and challenge themselves.
The troop organized canoe outings to prepare Scouts for Northern Tier high-adventure experiences and hiking treks designed to build endurance and skills for Philmont Scout Ranch. Scouts also took ownership of documenting and sharing their experiences, regularly uploading photos and highlights from troop activities to their troop’s website to celebrate Scouting with the broader community.
“The Scouts truly strive to improve year after year,” said Tish Miller, Committee Chair. “This recognition reflects their commitment to leadership, service, adventure, and supporting one another. They set goals for themselves and worked hard to achieve them.”
The troop also received strong support and recommendations from community members recognizing the positive impact the Scouts continue to make throughout the region.
The American Legion Outstanding Scouts BSA Unit Award is presented annually to a troop that exemplifies the values of Scouting through community involvement, leadership development, service, and outdoor programming.
With this year’s honor, Troop 150 has set a new standard of excellence by becoming the first troop to receive the award in consecutive years.
